Look to the skies and the Supertrail for one of Thredbo's finest traditions, the flare run and fireworks display. It lights up the village on Saturday nights and it's a sure fire way to kick start a night on the town. For over 25 years visitors to Thredbo have enjoyed the weekly fireworks and flare run display and in 2007, 1,269 skiers and snowboarders took part in a flare run to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Thredbo landslide, smashing the Australian record for the biggest flare run.

Adult Flare Run

A Thredbo favourite for over 30 years. Every Saturday night our team of expert skiers and snowboarders wind their way down the Supertrail with flaming flares. Watching this spectacular event is the perfect way to kick off a magical Saturday night in Thredbo with family and friends.

Kids Flare Run

Every Thursday for most of the season, as the sun sets, the kids are loaded onto the Easy Does It Chairlift (no adults, kids are accompanied by snow sport instructors) ready to descend the gentle slopes with their own twinkling, flashing LED flares. Once all the kids have reached the bottom the fireworks spectacular lights up the sky. This is an iconic tradition not to be missed.

Thredbo Back Country Tours (supported by North Face)

Looking for a new adventure on your skis or board? This winter, enjoy a guided Backcountry Tour outside of the resort boundaries, where you’ll not only learn important backcountry safety skills but also ski and board some incredible and unique terrain. There is a backcountry adventure for everyone ranging from green, blue and black adventures, each catering to a different level of knowledge and skiing or boarding ability. Our guides are experienced and have gained extensive backcountry knowledge from exploring the mountains for many years. They are first aid trained, hold avalanche certification and carry appropriate emergency equipment. Every guest will be provided with a North Face backcountry pack that contains a beacon, probe and shovel. Snowshoes, splitboards and touring ski’s are available for rental so you don’t need to purchase any gear beforehand.

Snowshoeing

They say if you can walk you can snowshoe. Walk across the snow and into the big white yonder with your guide pointing out interesting features and landmarks. This is a great alternative to a day of downhilling or perfect for those after a soft adventure and some incredible views of the Australian Main Range. Moderate to high levels of fitness is required for this tour.

Taking a tourist chairlift ride is a must do during either summer or winter. The ride takes 20 minutes one way and offers stunning views of the Kosciuszko National Park. Once at the top of the chairlift station you can enjoy a delicious meal at the Merritts Mountain House restaurant. You can purchase your passes at Valley Terminal Guest Services office. This is just a short bus ride from the Friday Flat car park.

Experience the natural beauty of Australia’s highest mountains in summer as you walk and hike some incredible alpine trails. Enjoy a guided walk with one of our experienced guides or alternatively pick up a trail map and walk at your own pace on one of our special self-guided and art walks. Whether it’s a family friendly hike to the top of Mt. Kosciuszko or an advanced day hike across the Australian Main Range, there’s something for every age and ability to enjoy. With tons of glacial lakes, unique flora and fauna and mountains as far as the eye can see, it’s a must do whilst visiting Thredbo throughout summer.
