Things To Do In Hotham

Snow Shoeing is a great way to explore Mt Hotham and its surrounds. If you are looking for something different to do and like to go for walks in the countryside why not try it with some snowshoes on? With fantastic wilderness and alpine views from the top of the Great Dividing Range, Hotham is bound to please any body wanting to recharge from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

The Heli-Link takes approximately seven minutes in the six passenger helicopter which cruises at over 200 km/h. Your Falls Creek ski lift ticket is valid at Mt Hotham (and vice versa for Hotham-based skiers and boarders). We’ll drop you off in the morning and then pick you up in the afternoon.

Along the flight path you’ll see awesome snow-capped mountains such as Mt McKay (accessed by cat skiers or boarders with a guide), razor-sharp Mt Feathertop, cross-country skiers, historic cattlemen’s huts and if you are really lucky, wild brumbies! Bookings are essential and make sure you book early, as seats are limited on the “blue bird” days. The Heli-Link operates all season long on days that weather conditions permit.

Hotham and Dinner Plain have more than 35km of cross country ski trails, which provide a way to explore the peaceful snow environment away from the bustle of the downhill ski area.  Access to these trails is provided at no extra cost.

Hotham's designated snow play and toboggan area is situated at the beautiful and sheltered location of Possum Flat, adjacent to Wire Plain. A moderate toboggan slope overlooking Possum Flat is suited to kids of all ages. There is also plenty of space to let your imagination go wild and build a snowman, snow castle, or any sort of snow creature!

The snow play area will be open as per the Opening Hours during the season, though the toboggan slope may be closed due to insufficient snow depth. Facilities at the snow play and toboggan area include the Wire Plain day shelter and SnowStuffPark.

This area is easily accessed via the village bus service at Transit Stop 12. 

Travel back in time while a team of stunning Siberian Huskies whisks you away into the winter wonderland of the backcountry trails of Mt Hotham. 

Owner Jake Greaves has run sled dogs in Australia and overseas. Howling Husky has officially been operating for 6 years with in various Australian Alpine resorts and are now permanently expanding into Hotham. Howling Husky will be operating behind Wire Plain Hut. You can reach them by stopping at bus stop number 11.  Dinner Plain is located only 12kms down the road. Pre-booking is essential as this attraction books out quickly!

The fun doesn't have to stop once the sun goes down. Enjoy the unique experience of skiing or boarding under the stars. Night riding sessions will be held on Saturdays and Wednesdays at the Big D and Dinner Plain throughout the season.
