Day Trips in and around the Snowy Mountains
Whether your looking for jam packed adventure or seeking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life the Snowys' has something for everyone. Below is a list of some of the locals favourite day trips and attractions to keep you and the family entertained on your holiday.
Wild Brumby Distillery.
Adding to the magic of the distillery the owners also have an art gallery and often purchase local sculptures to display in their gardens. This is one stop not to be missed on your Snowy Mountains adventure.

Yarrangobilly Caves
Gaden Trout Hatchery
Gaden Trout Hatchery is situated along the Thredbo River close to Jindabyne. The Hatchery is one of Australia's foremost breeding centres for rearing and release of cold water sport fishing. Gaden Hatchery breeds four main types of fish; Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Atlantic Salmon and River Trout, The hatchery offers a unique up close look at the fish in the clear ponds and how the breeding process works. Gaden Trout Hatchery has guided tours from 10am and the presentation also includes a short video at the end of the tour.Fishing is not allowed in the hatchery howevery there are coin operated BBQ's, Toilets and a Picnic area which is great to enjoy afternoon lunches on the grass.

Location: Take the Kosciuszko Rd from Jindabyne heading towards Perisher past the turn off for Thredbo, Gaden Trout Hatchery is located about 10kms from Jindabyne on the left hand side.

Murray One Power Station
Take a scenic drive to Khancoban over the Kosciuszko Alpine way past Thredbo and enjoy some of the most scenic views on offer. Don't forget to look out for the Wild Brumbies who roam the countryside and leave tracks along the roadside. There are plenty of roadside stops along the way with fantastic views of the valleys and mountains. Once you get to the Murray One Power Station you will get the opportunity to discover the sheer size and power of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Scheme which currently provides over 70% of Australia's eastern mainland power grid with renewable energy .
The facility has interactive exhibits, plenty of information about how the power station works and the effects on our environment. Murray One Power Station also has a BBQ and picnic area to stretch your legs and have a bite to eat.

Location: 15 Minutes from Khancoban. About 2hrs drive from Jindabyne along the Alpine Way.
Perisher Valley Walking Tracks
Head to the Jindabyne Tourist Information Centre located in between the Town Centre and Nuggets Crossing Shopping Centre and the lovely ladies on the front desk will arm you with tons of information on the best walking tracks perisher has to offer. There are a wide range of tracks that are well trodden and cater to different fitness levels and time frames. Along some of these walks you will enjoy views of the Alpine Way and you can even see right down into Lake Crackenback Resort. These walks are a fantastic way to see some of Australia's High Country whilst gently stretching your legs and looking for native flowers and animal prints. The altitude provides a cooler temperature so you wont overheat on those longer treks but be sure to pack for all conditions and check the weather forecast before you head out.Open: Weather Permitting - All Summer
Cost: National Park Entry Fee - $16 per car per day during Summer
Location: Head along Kosciuszko road towards perisher and look out for the signs pointing to each walking track. Maps with tracks can be found at the Information Centres.
Hike Mt Kosciuszko!
This is one walk you wont forget! Climb to the top of Australia and take in the Snowy Mountains epic scenery with a flask of your favourite hot chocolate.Cost: 1 Day Unlimited Chair Rides - Adult $29, Child $14.50, Family $61, Senior $20

Horse Ride the Man From Snowy River trails
Let Thredbo Valley Horseriding take you through some of the bushland that the famous poem was written about. Nev and his trusty horses have a range of rides from 1hr to a full day trek and overnight camping for those who are bit more adventurous.
