QUEENSTOWN

Stay in QueenstownThis wide choice, combined with the spectacular mountain scenery and the enormous variety of activities and night life found in Queenstown makes it one of the most exciting holiday destinations and ski resorts in the Southern Hemisphere.

Queenstown is the heart of what has always been considered to be New Zealand's premier ski region. From here you can easily ski three great areas - Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Cardrona. The Snow Park is an alternative for boarders who enjoy pipes, rails and jumps. While some 90kms away, Treble Cone is another great ski area that can also be skied from Queenstown.

Coronet Peak:

The closest resort to Queenstown only 18kms away via sealed road. The resort has good on mountain facilities and a ski area of over 692 acres with wide, sunny and extremely interesting terrain to suit all skiers and boarders. On its day Coronet Peak is a great resort but as it is not as high as other areas the snow season and conditions can fluctuate. Now with more snowmaking Coronet Peak has a reliable base with its season stretching into early October. With night skiing available on Friday and Saturday and its two half pipes and two terrain parks Coronet Peak is able to offer something for everyone.

Remarkables :

Only 28kms from Queenstown, The Remarkables offer some spectacular views and some excellent beginner to intermediate terrain. Spread over 544 acres and three valleys the more experienced will also find some more challenging runs off the sidewalls and a few steep chutes. The Remarkables ski area also boasts some great on snow facilities and an excellent ski school, snow tubing, terrain park and super pipe. With its higher base altitude of 1620m The Remarkables receive great natural snowfalls and benefit from extensive snowmaking to usually see the season lasting into early October.

Cardrona :

Located in the Crown range 57kms from Queenstown and 34kms from Wanaka Cardrona boasts the most reliable season in the area. Offering over 790acres of groomed and off piste skiing spread across two main valleys. The front valley area is particularly good for beginners to intermediates while Captain's Basin caters more for the intermediate to advanced skier or snowboarder. The middle valley area between both would have to have some of Cardronas most challenging conditions. Cardrona can also offer up to 4 half pipes and an excellent terrain park.

Treble Cone :

Situated 90kms from Queenstown Treble Cone is nearer Wanaka but still easy to reach for a day from Queenstown. Treble cone is recognised by boarders and skiers alike for having many steep runs and challenging terrain that includes drop offs, natural half pipes and a huge powder filled back bowl. Offering spectacular views out over Lake Wanaka and across the Mount Aspiring National Park there are many photo opportunities along the well groomed and maintained trails. Extensive snowmaking and some gentler runs on the lower slopes also appeal to the intermediate and beginner.
