Mansfield |

Situated in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, Mansfield is surrounded by grazing land and mountain forests, with the area well-known for its stunning scenery.

Mansfield is a small town in the foothills of the Victorian Alps in the Australian state of Victoria. It is approximately 180 kilometres (110 mi) north-east of Melbourne by road.

The town centre has several historical buildings, dating back to its days as a stock route camp in the 1940s and a gold mining service centre beginning in the 1850s. High Street and Highett Street form tree-lined boulevards with gardens along their wide central strip as they meet in the town centre. At their junction is a marble monument which was erected in 1880 as a tribute to a group of constables killed by bushranger Ned Kelly.

Mansfield is very much a tourist town featuring a wide range of accommodation and vibrant commercial centre which caters for the many visitors who then travel to the ski resort of Mount Buller

How does it work?

If our Snow Guarantee lifts (see the list below) aren't operating in the two days before you arrive, you can contact your booking agent to change your booking to a later date or cancel your booking and get your money back. Please note: You can't take advantage of the Snow Guarantee on the day you arrive nor during your stay, only up to 5pm on the day before you arrive.

As an example, if your scheduled day of arrival is Sunday, then you must call between 9am Friday and 5pm Saturday to take advantage of the guarantee.

    Driving to Mt Buller

Driving in your own car or a hire car is only a short 3-hour drive from Melbourne via the Hume Highway or Maroondah Highway. Mansfield is the closest major town and what ever route you take to Mt Buller you will pass through Mansfield following the signs to Mt Buller.

Once you reach the base of Mt Buller (Mirimbah) you will be required to stop at the gate entry point and pay a fee to enter the Resort. Once through the gate entry point, continue up the road to Mt Buller.

The Mt Buller Village is located above the snow line, only a limited amount and type of cars are permitted to actually drive into the Village (access is normally restricted to residents, property owners and mountain staff). Most cars are required to stop at a car park about 1.5km below the Village. At this point, you will be met by an attendant who will guide you to a parking spot.

From here, you can either jump on a free shuttle bus (for day visitors) that will take you up into the Village centre or get in a 4WD taxi (for people staying overnight) which will take you right to your accommodation.

If you'd like to drive to Mansfield but would prefer to sit back and relax for the trip up into the Mt Buller Village, you can always jump on bus for the last leg of the trip. Mansfield-Mt Buller Bus Lines provides regular services from Mansfield, Merrijig and Mirimbah, which means no chain hire or mountain driving.
